Learning New Things

I pick up new technology and new skills very quickly. My engineering training helps me to be analytical and data oriented and I find that this helps me to ramp up on a new technology very quickly.

Many entrepreneurs make the mistake of hiring someone with good domain-specific knowledge but questionable sales or marketing skills and experience. My opinion is that learning technology is easy; learning to add value in the sales and marketing process is not. Hire a sales or marketing specialist, your company is full of technology experts already.

Managing People

Managing people is a complex task that changes from situation to situation. Patience, flexibility and empathy are required to build a team that will be effective and loyal to the company. I have built and maintained sales, marketing and FAE teams and I can do the same for you. Many of the people who have worked for me in the past would jump at the opportunity to work for me again and they form a worldwide network of resource for me to draw upon when needed. They like working with me because I enable them to grow, I make them feel respected and above all, they love cashing those commission checks.

Travel

I love to travel and I have been to many countries during my career. I spent many years doing sales and marketing in Asia: Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore and I have friends in these countries. I have traveled or been posted to: UK, France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, Norway, Sweden, Austria, Israel, Brazil and Australia.

Education

I attended the University of Birmingham in the UK where I studied Electronics and Computer Engineering. I won the Jarvis Prize for the best final year project, in which I built a CFAR (Constant False Alarm Rate) radar signal processor.

Interests

Aside from technology and electronics business, I'm an avid yacht racing skipper, soccer player and whitewater kayaker. You'll also catch me throwing pottery and building custom cabinetry. Check out my racing pictures here and my Top Ten favorite original sayings.
